Aquarena Springs TRI
The Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos is hosting a triathlon which sponsors EarlyAct First Knight at Travis Elementary School in San Marcos, Texas. The EarlyAct programs are offered 10 minutes each school day. The program was developed since there is a "need for character education" in schools, so an "early innovation" was facilitied to build up our children of tomorrow. This is a "timely opportunity" that Rotary is glad to become a part of. (Quotes from EarlyAct website )
All proceeds will benefit the Greater San Marcos Rotary Foundation (501c3).
About This Event:
The Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos is proud to offer a sprint triathlon at the renowned Aquarena Springs. "The prestigious Spring Lake is located in a 250-acre preserve. About half of the property is in the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone, and all of the property is part of the Sink Creek watershed." (hillcountryoutdoorguide.com)
With such a precious protected lake, the lake is closed to the public to swim in 363 days out of the year. Only two times during the course of a year is the crystal clear lake opened for public swim. The Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos Aquarena Springs TRI is one of those times. It is indeed a privilege to swim in the lake!

Individual Event Information:
NO SWIMMING BEFORE OR AFTER THE RACE. We will have a time trial start with one person over the start mat approximately every three seconds. The swim takes place in a spring fed lake with a large amount of aquatic life. If you get off course, you may swim through some hydrilla or other plant life. Don’t panic, just keep swimming and you will get through it. Our lifeguards will be there to make sure you are safe and we will cut back the plants as best we can before the race. Approximately 50 meters from the finish, the lake becomes shallow with tall plants, so be extra cautious in this area.
Please be aware that this is a RARE opportunity to swim in undisturbed, protected waters that are an asset to San Marcos and the surrounding areas.
After you exit the water, you will run about 50 meters to the transition area; an aid station will be here. Open transition area - no assigned location per athlete. The swim-in and run-out will be at the end of the parking lot that is furthest from the park entrance. The bike exit and entrance will be on the entrance side of the parking lot. Remember to have helmet securely fastened before you do anything else!
The course is a little bumpy in some areas, but is smooth overall. We will have police protection at the major intersections, but this is an open course so please be careful of traffic at all times. There are a few rolling hills throughout the course but overall it is nicely graded will decent road conditions. The roads will be swept in problem areas, yet special caution should be taken to avoid any falls. Listen for volunteers warning athletes to slow down.
SLOW DOWN AT TURN AROUND! VERY SHARP U-TURN!
The run course will began and end at Aquarena Springs. Half of the course will be pavement and grass with the remaining half on dirt and granite tails. Please prepare accordingly. The course will be clearly marked where we want you to run.
Complimentary food and drinks will be available. Afterwards, the awards will be handed out following the event!
NO RACE MEDALS WILL BE MAILED. YOU MUST BE PRESENT AT THE AWARDS PRESENTATION (OR HAVE SOMEONE REPRESENT YOU) TO RECEIVE AN AWARD
